Under the guidance of the renowned Dutch artist Jurriaan van Hall you will learn to create a clear, expressive, and lifelike clay portrait. How do you capture personality and character in clay? This diverse workshop covers all aspects of sculpting: from quick sketches to detailed portraits, from expressing textures to personal style, from armature to structure. There is ample space for personal guidance. Additionally, Jurriaan lectures on sculpting and sculptures. The workshop is suitable for both beginners and advanced participants.
About Jurriaan van Hall
Jurriaan van Hall (1962) is a Dutch painter and sculptor. Van Hall studied at prestigious institutions such as the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, the Rijksakademie, and the Royal College of Art in London. He was one of the founders of the illustrious Dutch artists’ collective After Nature. In 2004, Jurriaan van Hall was elected Artist of the Year. Van Hall is based in Amsterdam and currently works in Noordwijk, in the former studio of the famous Dutch sculptor Charlotte van Pallandt. His motto for this retreat: “To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong.”
The Retreat
Surrounded by an avocado plantation and a vineyard, our historic farmhouse offers the ideal residence to practise your sculpting techniques with utmost concentration and in complete tranquillity. You start your day with a healthy breakfast featuring locally sourced products and end the evening with a delicious dinner prepared by our skilled Portuguese chef, showcasing the flavors of the region. During the day you can explore the breathtaking Ria Formosa, where scenic walks and cycling trails offer moments of relaxation amidst stunning views.
With a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 participants, this sculpting retreat promises an exclusive, intimate and personalized experience.
Program
8:00: breakfast
9:00 – 12: 00: Sculpting workshop by Jurriaan van Hall
Lunch is at own leisure, upon request the quinta arranges reservations and transportation.
We are also happy to help with renting an (electric) bike or other activities (golf, yoga, stand up paddling, horse back riding.)
18:00 – 18:45: Wine and Portuguese snacks. Lecture by Jurriaan van Hall about sculpting.
19:00: Dinner at the quinta (or in restaurant) by local chef
