The Surroundings
Quinta do Pinheiro is located within the protected natural area of Parque Natural da Ria Formosa. This lagoon comprises small islands, sandbanks and dunes, creating an idyllic sanctuary for bird watchers. Stretching from Faro to the Spanish border, this area is dotted with charming towns and villages, including Fuseta, Olhão (home to a delightful covered market with fresh fish and local produce), Santa Luzia, Tavira and Cacela Velha.
Cycling & Hiking
The coastal bike trail, Rota da Costa Atlântica, follows the coastline, with Quinta do Pinheiro situated along this path. During low tide, you can stroll through the lagoon, and the bike path also serves as a wonderful hiking trail.
Boat Trips
Boat trips are available from Fuseta, Tavira, Santa Luzia, and Olhão. There are tours offering the chance to see seals or seahorses.
Kayaks / Paddle board / Horseback Riding
The lagoon is ideal for kayaking, stand-up paddling and horseback riding.
Kitesurf
In Cabanas de Tavira, just past Tavira, you can get kitesurfing lessons and also rent kitesurfing equipment.
Golf
The Algarve is known for its high-end golf courses. There are many options within a 30-minute drive from Quinta do Pinheiro. For example, Benamor offers a pleasant and moderately challenging course, Quinta da Ria/Quinta da Cima has beautiful courses with views of the Atlantic Ocean and Monte Rei, slightly inland, is renowned for its stunning course.
The Beaches
The Lagoon
Within a 5-10 minute walk from the farm, lies the tranquil lagoon. Excellent swimming spots can be found near the piers. On the opposite shore lies a beautiful, deserted beach, accessible only by kayak or boat. Remember to pack a lunch and an umbrella for your adventure.
Barril Beach
A small, charming train brings you to Barril Beach, you can also enjoy a 15 minute stroll across the Ria. On a walking distance from Barril you’ll find a nudist beach.
Fuseta Beach
Praia da Fuseta, is a delightful small beach in the heart of Fuseta. Adored by families with small children, it has a restaurant onsite, as well as rental for paddleboarding.
Fuseta Island beach
A beach opposite Fuseta. You can reach it by ferry or water taxi. There are sunbeds and a small restaurant where you can grab lunch. The boarding area might look busy, but if you walk a bit, you’ll find a stunning and mostly empty beach.
ILHA DE TAVIRA BEACH
The beach of Ilha de Tavira is situated in the far east of Tavira Island, which can be reached by a ferry or watertaxi from Tavira. Numerous loungers and beach umbrella’s and lots of nice restaurants.
