A project THAT pays homage to the region’s traditional architecture

The original charm and architectural beauty of this XIX century farmhouse, was meticulously preserved by the esteemed Portuguese architect Frederico Valsassina, retaining its original allure and architectural splendour.

The charismatic red windows connect indoor and outdoor spaces, while the flooring, made from local stone and indigenous materials, merges with the surrounding landscape. Inside natural colours were used, which change with the light reflecting throughout the day.

This harmonious blend of architecture and nature highlight the farmhouse’s rural tourism, offering visitors a full local experience.

A 19th century farmhouse, where wine is still produced

Quinta do Pinheiro has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Initially built between 1870-1875 by the grandparents of former owner Mrs. Luiza Junqueira Reis, the estate comprised Casa da Eira and Casa das Flores. Originally spanning 35 hectares, it extended from the national road 125 to the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Mrs. Luiza’s grandparents further expanded the property, constructing additional houses for wine production and agriculture. Their estate provided employment opportunities for the local community. After inheriting the farm, she continued wine production until around 2000, later renting the land for avocado cultivation and the house as a holiday retreat. Mrs. Luiza’s husband turned part of the house into a museum showcasing his eclectic collections, some of his boxes and antique toys can still be found at the houses.

When the farm went up for sale in 2021a successful Dutch entrepreneur, who had previously become a farmer in Portugal, and his wife, who was then still member of the editorial board of a Dutch newspaper, fell in love with it and renovated it, preserving its original charm. They asked the well known wine producer José Luís Santos Lima Oliveira da Silva to revive the vineyard.

Today Quinta do Pinheiro serves as the ideal family retreat and a unique destination where new encounters and adventures can arise.
